Mrs. from Leeuwarden is 85 years old and lives alone in an apartment. She asked us for help clearing out her basement. This room is located at the bottom of the building and contains her book collection. When we visited Mrs. during the intake interview, I immediately noticed that she had a lot of stuff in her apartment. However, we started with the basement.
The beginning was difficult because with each book she had a story, a memory, and in fact each book had to be preserved. After we spent an hour sorting, and Mrs. was mostly talking a lot, we asked her why she had hired me. "To clean up!" was her reply. Over a cup of coffee, we agreed to clear one closet in the storage room where the remaining books could remain.
Finally, we were able to say goodbye to a full van of books. We took these books to a church so they would not go to waste. The next day we called Mrs. and she thanked me for following through. She felt wonderfully cleaned up.
We were approached by a 45-year-old woman from Drachten. She wanted to get rid of her extra pounds, but said she had tried everything. She ate healthy and exercised 2-3 times a week. Together we discussed her eating habits and daily exercise. Because she had a sedentary job and only exercised for one hour three times a week, I advised her to take a walk after every hour of sitting. In addition, I advised her to walk for 20 to 30 minutes during breaks and in the evening.
We also examined the balance between her intake of proteins, fats and carbohydrates. I advised her to start eating more protein. Now, three months later, she has lost 4 pounds, has much more energy and feels happier. This is what we do it for.
A gentleman of 79 called us asking if we could clear out a house. A friend of his had died and the children did not live nearby and had no way to vacate the house. The deceased lady lived in a retirement home and the room needed to be empty three days after the farewell service. We agreed that I would come by to see what needed to be done.
The assignment became: sorting stuff. Some stuff had to stay and would be picked up later by the kids, other stuff went to the dump and the rest to the thrift store. Then we had to deliver the house broom clean, fill holes and remove the carpeting. The gentleman also asked if we would liaise with the housing company about how the house should be delivered, as he himself was also elderly and had no idea how to do this.
After Sir agreed to the price, we executed everything as agreed.
